BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY:
History: Mr. John Loosle, MSW/LCSW-LISAC graduated from Utah State University with a Bachelors degree in Psychology in 1975. He attended the University of Utah and graduated with a Masters degree in Social Work with an emphasis in mental health and marriage & family therapy in 1977. During graduate school he worked at the Granite Mental Health Center in Salt Lake City. At that time he received supervision from several skilled therapists, including Dr. Norman Anderson, one of only two psychoanalysts in the state at the time. Following graduation, Mr. Loosle took a job at the Wyoming State Hospital on the adolescent unit. He worked there as the unit psychiatric social worker for approximately 1 year. In April of 1978, he took a job with the Utah Department of Human Services. From 1978 thru 1988, Mr. Loosle worked for a year as a foster-care worker, 3 years as a youth therapist, three years as a substance abuse therapist, and three years as the supervisor of a 12 staff child welfare unit. In 1979 & 1980 Mr. Loosle became licensed as a Clinical Social Worker and as a Marriage & Family Therapist. He started a part-time private practice in July of 1979.
In the fall of 1988, Mr. Loosle left the Department of Human Services to pursue his private practice and develop an intensive outpatient program for at risk teens, referred to as Day treatment. Locally, a high number of youth were going to inpatient programs, but were having a difficult time maintaining their gains following discharge. Day treatment was started to help maintain the gains made while in the hospital and to divert youth from a higher level of care if possible. The program became licensed by the state the second year of existence. The private practice continued until 1990 when he terminated his outpatient work to devote full-time to his newly developed Corporation, the Family Preservation Institute, Inc. and his intensive day treatment program for adolescent disorders. By 1991, the local Division of Alcohol and Drug desired to contract for intensive day treatment services. This required that the program be also started in another community 30 miles away to serve more at risk youth in Northern Utah.
In addition to pioneering intensive day treatment services in Northern Utah, Mr. Loosle began an intensive residential treatment program (RTC) for sexually reactive youth. At that time there was limited specialized residential treatment programs in the state designed specially for sexual offenders. He developed a highly specialized treatment program that was congruent with national standards that are recognized as essential for the treatment of sexual offenders. In 1991, an 8 bed facility was opened in Logan, Utah. During the next five years the program added beds to a level of 49 beds: 40 beds in Utah and 9 beds in Chester, Idaho. For 10 years Mr. Loosle directed the growth of FPI from 5 employees in 1990 to over 115 in 1998. In 1996 and 1997 the Family Preservation Institute was recognized as number 47 and 92 respectively for “The Top 100 Fastest Growth Companies” in the state of Utah.
Mr. Loosle directed the program development and clinical treatment that benefited hundreds of families over a ten-year period. On March 23, 1998 the “Good-Will” of the Family Preservation Institute, Inc. was sold to Youthtrack, Inc. a subsidiary of Res-Care, Inc. a publicly traded company. In June of 1999, Mr. Loosle served as the Clinical Director of the Rainbow Bridge Residential Treatment Center for the Navajo Nation DBHS until August 2004. He returned to private practice June 2001 with contacts with Adult probation and Drug Court. Specialty: addictions, dual diagnosis, and sexual disorders. He has been a AHCCCS provider for the Navajo Nation for the last 10 years.
In 2010, Mr. Loosle participated in the development of the Justice Court "Drug Court". He became the provider for the Justice Court and Adult Probation for Intensive Outpatient Mental Health/Alcohol and Drug treatment services. He retired in June of 2015. He is now ready to start with sharing his expertise and knowledge with others who want to free themselves from the bubble that has trapped them and to find new ways to move on with the life they choose in the pursuit of happiness.
